Directions of the Sea: Compass Jelly,

Like an enduring piece of plastic, unwillingly pushed to all corners of the sea, jellies are slaves to the ocean currents. The compass jelly’s ironic resemblance to the nautical instrument that shares it’s name best highlights the listlessness of these wandering creatures.

Painted in iridescent red orange and gold, the compass jelly is represented with bright notion of a free spirited soul, gracefully floating in all directions of the vast sea. Spinning it's stripes and adjusting it's compass through the path of what we call life.

Using loopy and whimsical line work throughout the jellies body, I am mentioning a balance of a playful and soft attitude to it's guided and straightforward stripes displayed in its bell. A balance we all could use reminder of. With dainty and loosely painted tentacles, this creature remains light and present as it swims through the calmingly painted turquoise and aqua waters.
